Boy X by Clifford Oliver, directed by Carole Pluckrose
Four boys stand at a graveside. Boy X is dead. Another 16-year old murdered. The cycle of revenge begins again.
Boy X is a powerful drama, based around knife crime, performed by my mates, who happen to be extremely compelling actors Jordan Barrett, Michael Kofi, Lee Vassell and Tendayi Jembere. Between the four very different characters, there is one for each individual watching to relate to.
After a performance at Waterloo Station on 22 September as part of London Week of Peace, Superintendent Jim Little of British Transport Police said: “Weapon-related crime, although rare on public transport, affects both victims’ families and their communities and that is why we have a duty both to the victims and the public to take a tough approach to those who are caught carrying knives and to protect the vast majority of people who don’t.”
Boy X is usually performed at schools and colleges accompanied by workshops, however they are opening up the show to the general public on 10th March 2010. There are talks of turning Boy X into a film, so I definitely wouldn’t miss the opportunity to see the play live and in action.
